defi-Nations First Nations Poetry at Adelaide Festival Centre
August 6, 2024

The Mobile Language Team is proud to sponsor First Nations poets in the 2024 defi-Nations exhibition, a vibrant celebration of language and creativity through poetry.
Presented in partnership with the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation, defi-Nations brings together emerging and established poets from across South Australia to showcase the power of words and language in shaping identity, culture, and connection.
Running from 3 August to 12 October at The Galleries, Adelaide Festival Centre, defi-Nations is an exhibition that highlights the diversity, depth, and beauty of language in all its forms.
Co-presented by the Adelaide Festival Centre and the Mobile Language Team, the exhibition features 11 First Nations poets, each drawing on their heritage languages to craft new works that blend tradition with innovation. Through poetry, these artists explore how language can heal, empower, and create fresh experiences for themselves and the wider public.
Poetry is one of the most accessible and inclusive mediums of artistic expression. In defi-Nations, audiences are invited to experience how First Nations poets use rhythm, sound, and story to celebrate the vitality of language. By weaving words from their heritage languages into new works, these poets offer a living reminder of the resilience and creativity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
